Located at 3246 Fairfield Avenue, the Ritz Ballroom could accommodate 1742 patrons. Open from 1923 to 1962, performers included Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Esther Phillips, B. B. King, Wynonie Harris, Harptones, and the Moonglows. A 1954 Fats Domino concert was canceled by the city for fear of a rock ‘n’ roll riot.
